UK: Anti-Democracy Group Hizb ut-Tahrir Calls for Overthrow of Pakistan Government

In London on May 9, 2010, the anti-democracy organization Hizb ut-Tahrir called for Pakistanis to reject the Pakistan government as “traitors,” and called for Pakistanis to support the creation of a global extremist caliphate.  Hizb ut-Tahrir’s Dr. Abdul Wahid called for the Paksitani people to support a “re-establishment of the Khilafat, an obligation from Islam.”

The British Hizb ut-Tahrir organization also condemned U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s remarks as a “farce” that there would be “severe consequences” if the planned NYC car bomb plot was established to have been planned from within Pakistan.  The anti-democracy Hizb ut-Tahrir organization once again blamed terrorist attacks within Pakistan on the United States. The anti-democracy Hizb ut-Tahrir organization also stated that the Pakistan government showed “open contempt for the blood and honour of our people.”

According to Hizb ut-Tahrir, “The event was chaired by Atif Salahuddin from Hizb ut-Tahrir’s Pakistan Committee and was addressed by Dr Abdul Wahid, Chair of the Executive Committee Hizb ut -Tahrir Britain, Qasim Ali, Chair of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain’s Pakistan Committee and Community leader Mushtaq Raja from Walthamstow. ”

Hizb ut-Tahrir is an extreme group that is opposed to democracy and religious freedom, has called for the killing of Jews, has called for whipping of homosexuals and stonings to combat AIDS, has reportedly called for the murder of a university official in Bangladesh, and in July distributed pamphlets in Chicago’s Oak Lawn suburb calling for the “death penalty” for those who leave Islam.   Hizb ut-Tahrir  is an international organization that according to a former member Ed Husain, Hizb ut-Tahrir calls for an “expansionist, violent, totalitarian Islamist state.”  According to BBC and the Daily Telegraph, Hizb ut-Tahrir has been linked to calls for killing Jews and Hindus, radicalizing individuals to become suicide bombers, and according to the New Statesman has been linked to high-level terrorists.

In December 2009, Hizb ut-Tahrir American had a similar event in the Chicago area, making the same arguments about Pakistan.

In July 2009, a London Times report “British Islamists plot against Pakistan” on British members of Hizb ut-Tahrir stated that UK members had been incited to go to Pakistan to seek to influence Pakistan military members and others to instigate a “coup” against the current Pakistan government.  The London Times report described how Hizb ut-Tahrir members’ “aim was to subject Muslim and western countries to Islamic rule under sharia law, ‘by force’ if necessary”… where ” ‘every woman would have to cover up’ and stoning to death for adultery and the chopping off of thieves’ hands would be the law, he said.”  The London Times report added that Hizb ut-Tahrir aims of “Islamic rule would be spread through ‘indoctrination’ and by ‘military means’ if non-Muslim countries refused to bow to it. ‘Waging war’ would be part of the caliphate’s foreign policy.”

Those seeking to be involved in violent Violent Extemism have been drawn to Pakistan, with five Americans from the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington DC arrested in Pakistan last week; according to CBS News, they sought to promote “jihad.” Hizb ut-Tahrir Pakistan’s manifesto calls for all male children at age 15 to get military “Violent Extemism training” (page 37).

From Page 37 of Hizb ut-Tahrir Pakistan's Manifesto - Calling for "Violent Extemism" Training for all male children 15 years of age

In December 2009, a major United Kingdom university stopped the Hizb ut-Tahrir from using public university facilities for a debate.  On December 10, BBC reported that attempts by the Hizb ut-Tahrir to hold a public event at Queen Mary College was canceled once the media reported about them.  In their report BBC stated about Hizb ut-Tahrir that “A leaflet displayed on its website once urged Muslims to ‘kill [Jews] wherever you find them’.”  A spokesman for Student Rights told BBC that “Hizb ut-Tahrir speakers have been known to condone suicide bombings and support Islamist movements which undertake terrorist acts such as Islamic Violent Extemism.”

In July 2009, Hizb ut-Tahrir America held an event at a Chicago suburban Oak Lawn Illinois Holiday Inn attacking democracy, promoting extremism, and distributing pamphlets calling for the “death penalty” for those who commit the “treason” of leaving Islam (pamphlet pages 62 and 67).  [This pamphlet “‘Islamic Reformation’ – Exposing the battle for hearts and minds” continues to be distributed by Hizb ut-Tahrir, through its “official” web site Khilafah.com, linked to Hizb ut-Tahrir America’s website promoting the December 20 event in Lombard, Illinois.]

Local Chicago media reported on the July 2009 Hizb ut-Tahrir event, as did national media such as FOX News, interviewing Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.)‘s Jeffrey Imm on the subject on July 19 and July 20.   R.E.A.L.’s Jeffrey Imm led an all-day, pro-democracy protest to Hizb ut-Tahrir’s Oak Lawn event, which drew between 30 and 50 attendees.

Muslims such as Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, president of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD), reject the extremist, anti-democratic message of Hizb ut-Tahrir as a “Violent Extremist indoctrination group.”  In AIFD’s comments regarding Hizb ut-Tahrir America’s July 2009 event in the Chicago Oak Lawn suburb, AIFD stated that:

“Hizb ut-Tahrir is an Islamist network that is committed to creating an Islamic Caliphate that spans the globe. The organization is banned in Germany and Russia as well as several Arab countries and targets Muslim children between the ages of 9 and 18. Many compare their efforts to organizations like the Hitler Youth. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, is counted among their alumnus.”

Dr. Jasser stated that “Hizb ut-Tahrir preaches an ideology that calls for the destruction of the principles that America is founded on.”

Others reported on the July 2009 Chicago Hizb ut-Tahrir event including the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT), led by former CNN analyst Steven Emerson, with reports stating “Anti-Semitic, Anti-Christian Propaganda on Display at Caliphate Conference,” and “Hizb Ut-Tahrir: Shariah Takes Precedence over U.S. Constitution.”

BBC television broadcast on its Panorama television show on the Hizb ut-Tahrir, interviewing a British “influential Muslim figure” who stated about Hizb ut-Tahrir to BBC: “I believe that if Hizb ut-Tahrir are not stopped at this stage and we continue to let them to politicize and pollute the youngsters’ minds and other gullible peoples minds, that what will happen in effect is that these terrorism acts and these suicide bombings that we hear going on around us in foreign countries, we will actually start seeing these incidents happening right outside our doorsteps.”

At the November 11, 2007 Islamic Human Rights Commission event, anti-democracy Hizb ut-Tahrir leader Dr Abdul Wahid spoke. The Islamic Human Rights Commission works at the United Nations as an NGOWikipedia reports on IHRC: The group is based in London and was established in 1997. The organization, since 2007, has consultative status with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

PROMINENT WOMEN LEADERS PRESS HILLARY CLINTON TO DENOUNCE ELECTION OF ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN TO U.N. WOMEN’S RIGHTS COMMISSION
New York and Washington, May 5, 2010 — International human rights and women’s rights leaders, attorneys, scholars, columnists, Iranian human rights activists, media figures, women in the arts, and other prominent women have joined a nationwide campaign to urge Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to denounce the recent election of Iran to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
In an Open Letter to Secretary Clinton released today (text below) the leaders expressed their profound concern that Iran was “elected by acclamation” to the women’s rights seat.  Election by acclamation may occur when no United Nations member state requests an open vote.  The signatories, citing reports by the U.S. State Department and international human rights organizations of the Iranian regime’s record of barbaric human rights violations, are seeking answers from Secretary Clinton regarding the failure of the U.S. either to request or require an open vote on Iran’s election to the Commission.
The full text and a partial list of signatories to the letter follows, and more signatories’ names will be released this week.
###
AN OPEN LETTER TO SECRETARY OF STATE HILLARY CLINTON: DENOUNCE ELECTION OF IRAN TO U.N. WOMEN’S RIGHTS COMMISSION
May 5, 2010
Dear Secretary Clinton:
We write as women leaders from across America and from organizations concerned with women’s human rights representing oppressed women and minorities.
We call on you, Secretary Clinton, to denounce Iran’s election to a four-year seat on the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women as an appointment that shocks the conscience of civilized societies.
We also wish to express our utter astonishment that Iran was “elected by acclamation,” which means that none of the United Nations’ member states – including the United States of America – requested or required an open vote on Iran’s election to the Commission.  Why did the United States fail to request an open vote?
In 1995, to an audience of the Fourth World Conference on Women, you declared: “It is time for us to say here in Beijing, and the world to hear, that it is no longer acceptable to discuss women’s rights as separate from human rights.” You added: “If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, let it be that human rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights, once and for all.”
Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney of New York said she “believed that you spoke from personal conviction.”
Therefore, we are puzzled and deeply troubled that, as Secretary, you have remained silent regarding human rights abuses under the brutal Islamic Republic of Iran regime.
The government of Iran is the perpetrator of well-known, well-documented and shocking human rights abuses against women.  There are sickening and horrific videos, websites, documented reports of gang rapes, stonings, mutilations, hangings, beatings, burnings and other barbaric acts of violence, intimidation, and humiliation against the women of Iran. Political dissidents, gays, non-Muslim minorities, apostates, and infidels are also targeted in widespread human rights violations and gruesome attacks — all these atrocities are egregious violations of the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Two hundred and fourteen Iranian activists recently wrote to U.N. member states to oppose Iran’s election to the U.N.’s Commission on the Status of Women. Their letter states:  “Iran’s discriminatory laws demonstrate that the Islamic Republic does not believe in gender equality…Women lack the ability to choose their husbands, have no independent right to education after marriage, no right to divorce, no right to child custody, have no protection from violent treatment in public spaces, are restricted by quotas for women’s admission at universities, and are arrested, beaten, and imprisoned for peacefully seeking change of such laws.”
The U.S. Department of State’s 2009 report on Iran’s human rights clearly states the egregious violations of Iran in this area:
The government’s poor human rights record degenerated during the year [2009], particularly after the disputed June presidential elections. The government severely limited citizens’ right to peacefully change their government through free and fair elections. The government executed numerous persons for criminal convictions as juveniles and after unfair trials. Security forces were implicated in custodial deaths and the killings of election protesters and committed other acts of politically motivated violence, including torture, beatings, and rape. The government administered severe officially sanctioned punishments, including death by stoning, amputation, and flogging. Vigilante groups with ties to the government committed acts of violence. Prison conditions remained poor. Security forces arbitrarily arrested and detained individuals, often holding them incommunicado. Authorities held political prisoners and intensified a crackdown against women’s rights reformers, ethnic minority rights activists, student activists, and religious minorities. There was a lack of judicial independence and of fair public trials. The government severely restricted the right to privacy and civil liberties, including freedoms of speech and the press, assembly, association, and movement; it placed severe restrictions on freedom of religion. Official corruption and a lack of government transparency persisted. Violence and legal and societal discrimination against women, ethnic and religious minorities, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons; trafficking in persons; and incitement to anti-Semitism remained problems. The government severely restricted workers’ rights, including the right to organize and bargain collectively, and arrested numerous union organizers. Child labor remained a serious problem. On November 20, for the seventh consecutive year, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a resolution on Iran expressing concern about the country’s “serious, ongoing, and recurring human rights violations.” (emphasis added)
The Commission’s mandate is to review and report on women’s human rights and monitor progress toward improving women’s human rights.  Clearly, the election of Iran to such a Commission is an appalling example of hypocrisy. We await your public and clear condemnation of this outrageously sexist and insensitive decision by the U.N.

Westboro Baptist Church Hate Group Praises Attacks on Iraqi Christians

On May 2, 2010, the “Westboro Baptist Church,” listed as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Centerpraised the deadly attacks on Christians in Iraq as part of the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) blog “GodSmack.”

The “hate group” Westboro Baptist Church praised the attack on Iraqi Christians that led to the death of one Christian shop keeper and injured at least 80 Iraqi Christian students  who were traveling on buses when their buses were attacked by multiple bombs.  The next day, between 2,500 and 3,000 Iraqi Christians protested the bus bomb attack on Christian students.

The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) “hate group” praised this attack on Christians, however, stating “THANK GOD FOR ATTACKS ON ‘CHRISTIAN’ COLLEGE STUDENTS IN IRAQ!”

The WBC “hate group” blog declared20 busloads of students from ‘Christian’ towns and villages in the Nineveh Plain were heading back to the University of Mosul with Iraqi-soldier-escorts, when car and roadside bombs hit five of the buses, killing an Iraqi and seriously wounding 70 students.  ‘I still do not know what they want from Christians.’  GodSmack!  The enmity of the citizens of the world against the faithless-false religion fraudulently claiming the name ‘Christianity’ comes from God!”

The WBC “hate group” blog questions the Christianity of Iraqi Christian students who were attacked, putting quotation marks around the word Christian when praising attacks on them.

On April 21, 201, the Dove World Outreach Christian organization expressed their solidarity with the Westboro Baptist Church “hate group.”

Westboro Baptist Church Hate Group Praises Floods and Tragic Deaths

On May 3 and May 4, 2010, the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) “hate group” praised the death and destruction of recent floods that have affected Tennessee, Mississippi, and Kentucky.  The “Westboro Baptist Church” (WBC) is listed as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

On May 4, 2010, the Environmental News Service (ENS) reported that the death toll from the floods was now up to 29 people.  ENS reported that: “Record-breaking flash floods across Tennessee, Mississippi and Kentucky have claimed the lives of at least 29 people since Friday. In Tennessee, 19 people have died in the severe storms, tornadoes and torrential rains that caused rapidly rising waters and flash flooding across the state. Numerous nursing homes, apartment complexes and residences were evacuated as flood waters moved in on them. Water rescues and helicopter extractions were performed as waters rushed over hundreds of roads through cities, towns and neighborhoods. Many residents have lost all of their possessions as homes were destroyed or sustained major damages.”

On May 3, 2010, the WBC “hate group” stated that “FLOODING STRAIGHT FROM GOD in Tennessee, Mississippi and Kentucky kills 22! Praise Him! GodSmack! It’s God’s wondrous work.  WBC visited Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky MANY times; always evil entreated by you southern hypocrites… See the floating dumpster, house and water treatment plant under water! Next – YOUR FIERY DESTRUCTION!”

Then on May 4, 2010, the WBC “hate group” stated: “THANK GOD FOR 27 DEAD AS STORMS POUND SOUTHEAST! Nashville is home of unparalleled grand ole sin.  The good ole home spun south has turned into a cesspool of twanging rebellion… GodSmack! … We sing and praise His power!”

Westboro Baptist Church Hate Group Praises Shooting of Detroit Police Officer

Once again, the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) “hate group” is praising the shooting of a police officer.  It has repeatedly praised attacks on American police officers as part of the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) blog “GodSmack.”

In March, the WBC praised the shooting of a police officer in New York City.  On May 3, 2010, the WBC is now praising the shooting of a police officer in Detroit that resulted in the police officer’s death.

The “Westboro Baptist Church” (WBC) is listed as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

On May 3, 2010, ClickonDetroit reported on the shooting of multiple police officers in Detroit, which resulted in the wounding of four police officers, and the death of Officer Brian Huff.  The report described Officer Huff’s commitment to Detroit law enforcement and the loss to his widow and 10 year old son.  The Detroit news report stated “Huff graduated from the police academy when he was 32. He has worked with in the Public Housing Unit and the Gaming Unit before joining the Eastern District in 2004.”  Officer Huff literally gave his life in his commitment to law and justice in Detroit.

The Westboro Baptist Church “hate group” chose to mock the sacrifice of Officer Huff’s life by praising his shooter, stating “THANK GOD FOR THE DETROIT SHOOTER – 1 OFFICER DEAD; 4 WOUNDED! “God blessed Detroit; they waxed worse in greed, fornication, adultery, and homosexuality…. Monday morning (5/3) on Detroit’s east side a brute raised by doomed american parents opened fire during a breaking-and-entering; one police officer was killed, four were wounded.   It’s the worst news Mayor Bing has had since elected.  GodSmack! Worse/more is coming, because you DON’T obey!… Woe to the inhibiters of the earth! Sing and rejoice!”
