Pakistan: Hate Engulfs Christians in Pakistan

(Pakistan) Hate Engulfs Christians in Pakistan
NYT reports: “Typical of such attacks, the police, overwhelmed by the mob, did little to stand in its way.”
— “The blistered black walls of the Hameed family’s bedroom tell of an unspeakable crime. Seven family members died here on Saturday, six of them burned to death by a mob that had broken into their house and shot the grandfather dead, just because they were Christian”
— “The family had huddled in the bedroom, talking in whispers with their backs pressed against the door, as the mob taunted them.”
— “‘They said, ‘If you come out, we’ll kill you,’ ‘ said Ikhlaq Hameed, 22, who escaped. Among the dead were two children, Musa, 6, and Umaya, 13.”
— “More than 100 Christian houses were burned and looted on Saturday in a rampage that lasted about eight hours by a crowd the authorities estimate was as large as 20,000 strong. In addition to the seven members of the Hameed family who were killed, about 20 people were wounded.”
— “The authorities, who said the Koran accusation was spurious, filed criminal charges in the case late Sunday and apprehended at least 12 people. Officials said a banned Sunni militant group, Sipah-e-Sohaba, was among those responsible for the attacks, the third convulsion of anti-Christian mob violence in the region in the past four weeks.”
— “Christians, who make up less than 5 percent of the entire population, are often treated as second-class citizens in Pakistan, where Islam is the official religion. Non-Muslims are constitutionally barred from becoming president or prime minister.”
— “The Hameeds were having breakfast when the mob descended, wielding guns, hurling stones and shouting insults (‘Dogs!’ ‘American agents!’) through their window. The Hameeds did not appear to have been singled out but had the misfortune of living where the mob entered the neighborhood and happened to be home at the time.”
— “‘We were afraid because the clerics had been railing against us in the mosques,’ said Riaz Masih, a Christian and retired math teacher whose house was gutted. ‘They said, ‘Let’s teach them a lesson.'”

Arizona: Chemical attack was hate crime against NW side couple, official says
— Arizona Daily Star reports:

— “Chemicals left near a home on the northwest side that created a noxious cloud were part of a hate crime attack, a sheriff’s official said Sunday evening.”
— “The attack was racially motivated against a man and woman who live in the Casas del Oro Norte community in the 2800 block of West Magee Road, near North Shannon Road, said Deputy Dawn Barkman, a sheriff’s spokeswoman.”
— “The home’s front door and garage door had also been sealed shut from the outside with a spray foam sealer, she said. An incendiary device was also found near the garage door, she said.”
— “The situation started about 4:50 a.m. Sunday when homeowners reported they smelled an unusual odor. Deputies found several inches of an unspecified chemical liquid in a yard nearby. They also found what appears to be chlorine tablets covered in liquid in the yard.”
— “The chemicals produced a ‘flammable vapor’ that made a white cloud, which floated toward the southwest, mostly south toward Interstate 10, she said.”

Idaho: Aryan Nations gone, but stain remains in Idaho

Idaho: Aryan Nations gone, but stain remains in Idaho
— AP reports in Idaho Stateman:
— “The house where Aryan Nations founder Richard Butler lived has been demolished. So has the church where he preached his racist religion. Cows graze where hundreds of white supremacists used to burn crosses in the summer.”
— “The Aryan Nations is long gone from northern Idaho, but its reputation lingers to the chagrin of locals.”
— “When a man recently shot up the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., much was made of the fact that accused shooter James von Brunn spent a few days in 2004 in this area, living with a fellow anti-Semite before he was evicted for being too radical.”
— “It’s not unusual to see people sporting Confederate flags, anti-government slogans or even a swastika tattoo.”
— “Many of the newcomers hail from California, including a large cadre of retired law enforcement officers, of whom O.J. Simpson trial figure Mark Fuhrman is the best known.”

Our orange ribbon campaign is designed to make the public more aware of the areas that continue to be challenges for our true realization of equality and liberty in America and around the world:

Where Our Universal Human Rights Apply...
Where Our Universal Human Rights Apply...

Why All of These Issues of Equality And Liberty Are Interrelated

An assault on human rights and human dignity anywhere – is an assault everywhere.  An attack on women in one place is an attack on women everywhere.  Those anti-freedom ideologies that attack human rights in one place – are attacking human rights everywhere, including your human rights.  An attack on one race is an attack on your race.  Those supremacists who say that some people, because of their gender, their religion, or their conscience, do not deserve the universal human right of equality – deny such equality for all people everywhere.

That is what UNIVERSAL human rights are all about.  The very universality of this issue – makes every one of these struggles for human rights – the SAME struggle. They are not segmented struggles by geography, race, ethnicity, gender, etc. They are all the same struggle, because they are all the same universal human rights.

As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote, “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

Therefore, our support for human equality and liberty is not limited to only these categories above, but is part of our support for universal human rights for all humanity.  In this public awareness event, Responsible for Equality And Liberty seeks to make the public aware of these four major challenges to human equality and liberty today.  We don’t suggest that these are the only challenges to our universal human rights, but these are major global challenges that are literally life and death issues for our fellow human beings.

We challenge each of those aspects that defy equality and liberty, not merely as random violence, not merely as aspects of the world that we would like to change – but as INSTITUTIONALIZED HATE that consciously and deliberately stands AGAINST the universal human rights of equality and liberty.

Join our Orange Ribbon Campaign for Equality And Liberty!

Wear your orange ribbons, put an orange ribbon magnet for equality and liberty on your automobile, and let the WORLD know that YOU TOO stand for our universal human rights of equality AND liberty!
