Responsible for Equality and Liberty (R.E.A.L.)’s orange ribbon campaign is to promote consistency in equality and liberty for all people of every race, gender, and religion, in the United States and the world.  We also know that without a consistent commitment to equality, we cannot realize human liberty.

R.E.A.L.'s Orange Ribbon Campaign for Equality And Liberty
R.E.A.L.'s Orange Ribbon Campaign for Equality And Liberty

1. Promoting Racial Equality – Defying Racial Supremacism. The truths that we hold self-evident as human beings and as Americans that all human beings are created equal is a fundamental part of our identities.  But there are increasing numbers of extremist and hate groups who seek to deny such truths.   The number of hate groups, especially white supremacist hate groups, continues to rise in America.  In June 2009, we witnessed a white supremacist terrorist attack in Washington DC where Stephen Tyrone Johns was murdered, and we continue see hate from the Stormfront group members that continue to promote violent attacks in America.  One such Stormfront white supremacist, Daniel Cowart, will be coming up for trial. Other trials of white supremacist hate group members are also upcoming.  We must not continue to ignore the growing threat of racial supremacist hate – we must send a message to racial supremacists – Never Again.

At R.E.A.L.’ s April 4, 2009 public awareness event on the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool steps last year, we warned of such growing racial hate groups.  We called for the answer in Love, Not Hate.  Even in our protest of the “white nationalist” “American Renaissance” group (based in Virginia) that sought to spread racial hate in February in the Northern Virginia/ Washington DC area – we urged love and racial harmony there as well.  After our February 2010 public awareness campaign with the public and local hotel, the American Renaissance biannual conference was canceled for the first time in 16 years.  Our voice in defying racial hate can be heard.  Our shared consensus on standing for racial equality, diversity, and harmony does have power and influence.

Yes, We Can promote racial equality and defy racial supremacism.  But we must act, and we must get our message of love for our universal human rights and our fellow human beings out to the public.  We need to urge them to Choose Love, Not Hate.  Love Wins.

Pray for and Reach Out to Those Hearts Burdened by Hate - Ask Them to Rejoin the Family of Humanity
Pray for and Reach Out to Those Hearts Burdened by Hate - Ask Them to Rejoin the Consensus that Defends Human Rights, Human Equality, & Human Dignity

2. Promoting Gender Equality – Defying Misogyny. Not Just Men, But All Women Are Also Created Equal.  This is why we continue to call for full Constitutional Equality for women in America.  Surely, America cannot be the last place where we fight for women’s rights, it must be the first place. American women deserve Constitutional Equality – because they are worth it.  That must be a national declaration, never a question.

Our support for consistent human rights in being responsible for equality and liberty always includes all women as a fundamental basis for our activism.  No matter what the issue is, somewhere, somehow, women are ultimately affected.

congo-women-2-300x200

But our struggle for our sisters’ gender equality and America and around the world has many facets.  It includes the continuing violence, abuse, and degrading of women in America.  It includes the 1,000 women raped every month in the Congo as acts of war and genocide.  It includes the millions of women oppressed by Communist totalitarianism in Communist China.  It includes those women who are abused by religious fanatics in America who think they have a God-given right to sexual abuse.  It includes threats to women in America and around the world by those who believe that they have a right to kill, stone, beat, and oppress Muslim women.

We stand in solidarity with our sisters in American and around the world for their gender equality, freedom, and lives.  Especially in the case of our oppressed sisters everywhere, we urge all to Choose Love, Not Hate.  Love Wins.

Women Still Being Stoned to Death

3. Defending Religious Freedom – Defying Religious Extremism and Totalitarian Oppression. In being responsible for equality and liberty, we also defend our universal human right to religious freedom for all.  Today, many do not have such rights of religious freedom.  Others live in constant fear and threat for exercising this most basic human right of freedom of conscience.  We stand to speak in support of such freedoms for all.

In America, we see hatred of those with different religions too often.  We are responsible for standing up for religious pluralism and freedom in America and around the world.  This means rejecting those who would defile churches, mosques, synagogues, and other houses of worship.  We reject those ideologies of hate and individuals who promote hatred against any religion, including those who would deny all human beings the freedom of conscience to change their religion.  We reject hate groups in America such as the so-called “Westboro Baptist Church” “hate group” , as well as those whose mission is to spread hatred against and attack people of other faiths.

In America Today: Churches, Mosques, Synagogues, Other Houses of Worship Attacked

In too many nations of the world, religious freedom is not even a consideration.  In Communist China, totalitarians have denied both Christians and Muslims rights to freely worship, and have conducted campaigns to destroy houses of worship and arrest those who dare to freely exercise their religious beliefs.

Communist China - despite Communist detention of pastors, 500 of Wanbang church continue to worship (ChinaAid)
Communist China - despite Communist detention of pastors, 500 of Wanbang church continue to worship (ChinaAid)

An international human rights group, Set My People Free, will be holding events on April 3 in locations around the world calling for freedom of people of all faiths to worship, where converts to other faiths in many Muslim majority nations are currently oppressed.  Such oppression is horrifying – in Pakistan, mobs of thousands have gone to Pakistan Christian villages, burned homes, churches, and people alive.  In Egypt, Coptic Christians have been victims of terrorist attacks as they have exited from Christmas Eve services.

Freedom of conscience is our commitment to equality of worship.
We stand united, responsible for such equality and liberty, in America and around the world.

Our Cause: Equality And Liberty for All — for All Races, Genders, and Religions

Dr. King Had A Dream – We Have A Responsibility

On the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool steps, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once told us “I have a dream.” We continue to honor that dream and that vision not simply by good intentions but also by action.  As Dr. King had a dream, We Have a Responsibility.

We have a Responsibility for Equality And Liberty.

These causes are all related to our common commitment, our common consensus, our shared universal human rights of equality and liberty.  We share this consensus with one another.  Let us use this day, this opportunity, on March 28 to help the public become aware of how much we have in common, and how the using the power behind our shared commitment to equality and liberty can change America – and can change the world.

As we urge those in America and around the world to…

Choose Love, Not Hate.  Love Wins.

Join Us.

DC Press Conference on Egyptian and Christian Oppression

On March 12, 2010 at the Washington DC National Press Club, the Voice of the Copts held a press conference to address the subject of ongoing Egyptian Coptic Christian oppression and the oppression of Pakistani Christians.

The Voice of the Copts’ Ashraf Ramelah spoke on the human rights issues regarding the Copts in Egypt. He addressed the attack on Coptic Christians on the Coptic Christmas Eve in January 2010, which resulted in 6 Copts and a Muslim police officer were killed.  He also discussed  the case of Mohammed Bishoy Hegazy, an Egyptian Christian who converted to Christian from Islam, and who has asked the Egyptian government to allow his Egyptian identity card (which describes a person’s religion) to be changed from Muslim to Christian.

On January 22. 2010, the Voice of the Copts announced that the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) submitted application into UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights “seeking judgment against the Egyptian government for refusing to recognize the fact that Mr. Mohammed Bishoy Hegazy and his family members are Christians converted from Islam.”  The Voice of the Copts stated that Mr. Hegazy’s Egyptian attorney was Mr. Ashraf Edward.

Attorney Ashraf Edward was supposed to be at the March 12, 2010 press conference, but Ashraf Ramelah stated that his visa application to come to the United States was stalled by government officials, even though it was filed on a timely basis.  Voice of the Copts’ Ashraf Ramelah stated that some U.S. government officials questioned why the Copts even needed to have such a press conference in the United States to speak on behalf of Coptic freedom, equality, and liberty in Egypt.

In attorney Ashraf Edward’s prepared remarks, he states that “the case of Mohamed Hegazy, which was to take its first steps before the United Nations will be the first step to the issues of converts from Islam to Christianity in Egypt in particular and the Arab society in general.”  Ashraf Edward’s prepared remarks also stated that the Egyptian Constitution’s definition of Islam as the state religion and Sharia as the source of all legislation is the cause of the “suffering of all minorities within Egyptian society… [violating] all freedom proclaimed by the international conventions and treaties” as well as the International Covenant of Human Rights.

Voice of the Copts’ Ashraf Ramelah also spoke of his and the Voice of the Copts’ support for religious freedom, and that “I would be against anyone that would be creating any hate or pointing his finger just because this person is not a Christian or this person is a Muslim.”  Ashraf Ramelah concluded that “each one has the right to believe whatever he wants to believe… I don’t accept to be forced to be follow that belief.”

Ashraf Ramelah also summarized some of Christian convert Mr. Hegazy’s remarks in Arabic stating “sisters and brothers freedom is the most noble thing that we fight for and one of those freedoms that we fight for is the freedom of religion, as defined in article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”  Mr. Ramelah stated that Mr. Hegazy said that he was arrested for preaching for Christianity, and has been oppressed and discriminated against for converting from Islam to Christianity.  Mr. Ramelah also read that Mr. Hegazy stated that fatwas had been issued against him due to his conversion to Christianity.  Ashraf Ramelah also described Mr. Hegazy’s struggle to get his Christian identity recognized, as well as the situation in Egypt where those who convert from Christianity to Islam are widely accepted, whereas the religious freedom to convert from Islam to Christianity was met with oppression and threats.

Representatives of the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) also addressed the press conference.

Jordan Sekulow provided a description of the ACLJ’s mission as a partner to the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) that submitted Mohammed Bishoy Hegazy’s application to the U.N. human rights group seeking to have Egypt recognize Mr. Hegazy as a Christian. Mr. Sekulow described how the ACLJ and the ECLJ sought to defend the human and legal rights of Christians around the world. (See also video of Mr. Sekulow’s statement.)

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ)’s Shaheryar S. Gill also addressed the press conference, discussing details of Mr. Hegazy’s case.  Mr. Gill worked on Mr. Hegazy’s petition submitted to the United Nations in January 2010.  Mr. Gill also addressed the oppression of Christians both in Egypt and in Pakistan, as part of a global refusal by some nations to accept religious plurality. (See also video of Mr. Gill’s statement, part 1, part 2).

Dr. Nazir Bhatti of the Pakistan Christian Congress and Pakistan Christian Post further described the oppression of Pakistani Christians today.  Dr. Nazir Bhatti spoke about the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl, Shazia Bashir, on January 23, who was employed as a domestic in Lahore, Pakistan by a powerful Muslim lawyer Chaudhry Muhammad Naeem who is the primary suspect in this crime.  He spoke about how Pakistan Muslim League and others offered financial compensation to Shazia Bashir’s family, believing this would ensure “justice.”  Dr. Bhatti also described the formation of a medical board comprised of Muslim doctors who stated that Shazia Bashir was not raped, but claim that she died of a “skin infection.”  He also told of how the Lahore Bar Association passed a resolution that would call for the cancellation of lawyers’ membership who would follow the Shazia Bashir case.   Dr. Nazir Bhatti also spoke about the attack on Pakistan Christians attacked by a mob in Gojra, and how the accused parties were readily dismissed. (See also video of Dr. Bhatti’s statement).

Faith McDonnell, of The Institute on Religion and Democracy (IRD), spoke about oppression of women under Sharia.  She described her focus of seeking to change the witness of churches towards “the persecuted church and human rights in general.”  Faith McDonnell spoke about the release of the DVD of the film “The Stoning of Soraya M.,” which was released on the week of International Women’s Day.  She stated that the film reminds the world that  “under Sharia, [for Muslim women] it is a struggle for women to stay alive,”  and described how the rights for non-Muslim women under Sharia were even worse.  She spoke of the double standards and abuse of women under Sharia, as a “religiously sanctioned form of misogyny.”

Jeffrey Imm of Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) spoke on “Egypt and the Undiscovered Country,” stating that America once also had to find the courage to live up its human rights commitments.  He stated that America did so by the majority of whites who once oppressed black Americans realizing that they had the responsibility to change.  He urged Egyptian Muslims to “don’t look to just the Coptic victims of oppression for the solution to peace and human rights in Egypt.  Don’t expect only the Copts and their diaspora around the world to deal with this problem.”  He urged Egyptian Muslims to take responsibility for changing the oppression of Copts in Egypt.

“To both the Copts and to their oppressors, I invite you to consider seeking a path to a new Egypt, to an Undiscovered Country, where freedom of religion, where freedom of conscience, where our universal human rights of equality and liberty, are not just special privileges, but are guaranteed rights for all human beings. I invite you to pursue a path where human rights and peace are not considered as opposite choices, but are recognized as equal priorities.  And I invite you to pursue a path where we leave hate in our past, and choose love for our future.”  (See also video, part 1, part 2).

========================================

March 11 Logistics to Egypt Embassy:

— Date: Thursday, March 11
— Time: 1 PM to 4 PM
— Address: 3522 International Court N.W., Washington, DC 20008
— Nearby Washington DC metro stops: Van Ness-UDC metro stop
— Directions: R.E.A.L. recommends that rally attendees come by the Washington subway (“metro”) system to the Van Ness-UDC metro stop and walk over to the embassy.   The parking near the embassies specifically states that such parking is by permit only. However, there are public parking facilities on nearby Connecticut Avenue NW and Veazey Terrace NW a block north of the Van Ness-UDC metro stop as an alternative.  Details on the subway and parking options are provided in the following paragraphs.

Getting There by Subway

Take the DC subway red line (subway trip planner) to the Van Ness-UDC metro stop.   For context, the Van-Ness UDC metro stop is three stops north of Dupont Circle and two stops north of the Zoo.  So it is just a few minutes away from the center of the subway, Metro Center. Once arriving at the Van Ness-UDC metro stop, then following these walking directions:

Walking from VAN NESS-UDC METRO STATION to INTERNATIONAL COURT NW
— Exit station using WEST SIDE OF CONNETICUT AVE NW & VEAZY ST exit
— Walk approx. 1 block SE on Connecticut Ave NW.
— Turn right on Van Ness St NW.
— Walk approx. 3 blocks W on Van Ness St NW.
— Turn right on International Court NW.
— Walk approx. 1 block N on International Court NW.

Getting There by Car:

The embassy “courtyard” of International Court and International Drive can be reached by driving towards Connecticut Avenue NW, then turning onto Van Ness Street NW, and then from Van Ness Street NW you are able to turn onto either International Place or International Drive.  We have seen that the parking by the embassy is by permit only, although it is not clear how severely that is enforced.

Another alternative we have found is the Van Ness Center public parking lot.  We found that if go up Connecticut about half a block from the Van Ness-UDC metro stop (4201 Connecticut Avenue), that there is parking on the right of Connecticut Avenue going North when you turn right onto Veazey Terrace NW.   There is a public parking lot called the Van Ness Center parking lot that is next to a Giant food store.  The Van Ness Center lot is run by Landmark Parking, and it shows an address of 4301 Connecticut Avenue NW, but my GPS said that it was 3046 Veazey Terrace NW.   (There is also another lot advertised on that block of Connecticut Avenue next to an “Embassy Cleaners.”)  Walking back down the Connecticut Avenue from the parking lot exit, you will see a Pizza Hut, Jerry’s Sub shop and Bank of America on the corner.  Then basically follow the walking directions from the Van Ness-UDC Metro stop above.

March 12 Logistics to National Press Club:

R.E.A.L.’s Jeffrey Imm Stands Up to “White Nationalist” Hate in DC

As promised, even though the American Renaissance “white supremacist”hate group” event was cancelled, on February 19 at 12 noon, I showed up to spread the word about groups seeking to spread racial hate in Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland in Columbia Heights area of Washington DC.   I urged our fellow Washingtonians to Choose Love, Not Hate – Love Wins.

The Columbia Heights district of Washington DC is a diverse area with white, black, Asian, Hispanic ethnicities.  I chose the location for its very diversity, which groups like the American Renaissance seek to mock.  Moreover, I made a point in speaking to people of color that I was standing in public as a white man showing that I recognized that defying white supremacism is the responsibility of white Americans too.  One passerby said with a smile, “about time someone understands that!”

February 19 - R.E.A.L.'s Jeffrey Imm Speaks at Columbia Heights After Cancellation of "American Renaissance" Event

Given the repeated threats against protesters by members of Stormfront and other “white nationalist” groups, I asked some supporters to hold back from this event which was not a rally, but merely a public awareness event to hand out fliers about the continuing challenge to the DC metropolitan area by “white nationalist” “hate groups” such as American Renaissance, VDARE, Occidental Dissent, and Stormfront.  I updated the public about the recent cancellation of the “American Renaissance” event, and also informed of the efforts of such groups to continue to seek to spread hate in the DC area.

A number of people thanked me for coming out to speak today.  As always, it was my pleasure, and as always, it was another good day to be  Responsible for Equality And Liberty.

Fliers Distributed on DC/VA/MD "White Nationalist" "Hate Groups"
Fliers Distributed on DC/VA/MD "White Nationalist" "Hate Groups"

Two members from the anti-Semitic, “white nationalist” Occidental Dissent group decided to stand some distance away on the street corner. Occidental Dissent’s motto is “We support the creation of a Jew-free, racially exclusive White ethnostate in North America.”

I asked them what they were afraid of.  They could see that I had no “gang of thugs” or “mob ready to shout them down.”

They still were so ashamed to appear in public, that one of them, “Hunter Wallace” had to hide his face with a black bandanna scarf and hat.   They sought to videotape my outreach to the DC public.  One man took a flier and wrote on “Hate Get Out” and showed it to them.   “Hunter Wallace” was joined by “Pip Pockets” who made catcalls and giggled.  I pity their fear and hate, and they should know that our rejection of their ideology is not a rejection of them as human beings.  We urge them to drop the hate from their hearts, and Choose Love, Not Hate.

I asked them where American Renaissance’s Jared Taylor was, but they had no answer – just like they had no courage to debate us on their ideas.  One meekly said he stood for “white power,” then promptly stopped talking.

My response was that myself and our supporters call, not for “white power,” but for “Human Power.”

Because it is that Human Power that stands up to hate, stands up to supremacism, stands up to totalitarianism, and gives strength to our shared consensus on our universal human rights.   We believe that all men and women are created equal.   That is never a question.  That is a declaration of what it means to be an American, and it is declaration of the most fundamental aspect of our universal human rights.

It is such Human Power that allows even a single individual to defy the forces of hate.  It is such Human Power that demonstrates that hate belongs in the past, and that our love for our fellow human beings and their universal human rights is the future.

Choose Love, Not Hate.  Love Wins.

Note: We will have a rally of those in support of Racial Harmony, Equality, Justice – in Defiance of Racial Supremacism – on the Steps of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool next month (previously planned for April 4 before we learned that was Easter Sunday this year).  I hope to see you there.  We will have more in the near future on this – check back at RealCourage.org, or email us at info@realcourage.org

R.E.A.L DC Public Awareness Event February 19 on Racial Supremacist Hate

Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) will be holding a public awareness event on February 19 at 12 Noon on the challenge of racial supremacist hate, and the upcoming “white nationalist hate group” American Renaissance conference.

Our goal will be to provide a street forum in Washington DC where the public can be made aware of the ideologies to be presented at the American Renaissance conference, still planned for somewhere in the Washington DC area on February 20 and 21.  We will invite participation from the public in this public forum.

We will urge the public to protest the planned American Renaissance conference scheduled for the DC area, and urge the public to choose love, not hate.

After having the American Renaissance conference canceled at the Dulles Marriott and then again at the Washington Dulles Westin hotels, the Nazi “white nationalist” website Stormfront is reporting that American Renaissance leader Jared Taylor will reveal the secret location that the event is being moved to “48 hours before the conference.”

“Nazi” leader Don Black has been promoting the American Renaissance conference on his Stormfront web site.  His Stormfront members have been eulogizing white supremacist Nazi terrorist James Von Brunn who attacked the DC area U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in June 2009, calling for people to “hate with violent passion,” and praising Von Brunn as a “martyr.”  R.E.A.L. objects to hate, and we urge our fellow human beings to choose love, not hate.

We support our unqualified, universal human rights for all.  We urge white supremacist and “white nationalist” supporters to drop the burden of the hate of supremacism from their hearts, and to rejoin the family of humanity in support of our universal human rights.

Choose Love, Not Hate.

Washington DC: 2000 Coptic Christians Rally Outside White House on January 21

On January 21, 2010 on a winter afternoon, over 2000 Coptic Christians rallied, chanted, sang, prayed, and marched outside the White House to get the attention of U.S. President Barack Obama and the American public on the continuing human rights violations of the Copts in Egypt.  They came from Maryland, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, and other parts of America to protest the recent terrorist attack on Copts in Egypt on January 6 (Coptic Christmas Eve), with terrorists killing Copts as they left their religious services in Nag Hammadi (near Luxor).   The latest attacks were part of a continuing history of oppression, rape, murder, and forced conversion from Christianity to Islam of the Coptic people and women in Egypt.

The crowd arrived in different locations from buses, some of which were organized at St. Mark Coptic Church (11911 Braddock RD Fairfax, VA 22030) and St. Mary Coptic Church (8340 Woodward St. Savage, MD 20763). Coptic organizers included Halim Meawad and Magdi Khalil.

With the recent attacks on Copts in November 2009 (in Farshoot and Abou Shousha) and the January 2010 terrorist attack on Copts outside their Mar Yohana church in Nag Hammadi, the Coptic people continue to face deadly persecution in Egypt.  Individuals passed out fliers at the White House rally defying President Mubarak’s claims that “there is no persecution for Copts in Egypt;” the fliers addressed the oppression of Coptic Christians, attacks on churches, the forced “Islamization” and abduction of Coptic girls, and official restrictions on creation of new Christian churches.

One attendee stated that the crowd of Copt supporters was estimated at 2500 people.  It was a large enough crowd that it filled the Pennsylvania Avenue area in front of the White House.  We attempted to estimate the moving crowd (which frequently was marching around the area) and concluded it was clearly over 2000 people.  New members to protest continue to join the rally as it was in progress.  Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) was represented among the supporters at the Copts’ White House rally.

Protesters held signs, crosses, and American flags.  Entire families with their children came to spend the day.

Signs included messages such as “Stop the Killing of Innocent Christians Now,” “Save Christians in Egypt,” signs imploring President Obama to recognize their plight, and some signs merely asked the painful question “Why?” regarding the hate-based attacks and oppression on the Copts’ human rights and lives.

In reference to the January 6 (Coptic Christmas Eve) terrorist attack, one protester’s sign read “Bloodshed is not what I wanted for Christmas.”

Others held large banners describing the scope of the ongoing human rights violations against the Copts: 161 attacks on Christians and churches, 4500 stores, houses, and churches burned, and 1500 tortured.

The protesters called for U.S. President Barack Obama to take action, and chanted “Obama, Obama, We Need Action!”

They also chanted to stop the killing of Christians in Egypt, that “Christian Blood is Not Cheap,” and implored the “U.S. [to] Wake Up!”

Protesters lined up and down the Pennsylvania Avenue area in front of the White House marched back and forth.

Virginia: “White Nationalist” Hate Group to Meet in Dulles Area – February 19 through 21

Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) is continuing to track the planned “white nationalist” conference by the American Renaissance group scheduled for February 2010.

According to their web site, the “white nationalist” “hate group” American Renaissance is still reportedly planning to hold a conference somewhere in the Washington DC Virginia suburb near the Dulles airport on the weekend of February 19 through 21st.  The American Renaissance group also goes by the name New Century Foundation.  American Renaissance is apparently keeping the location of their planned conference a secret, fearing protests by those who would challenge their white supremacist views.  Previous American Renaissance conferences have included former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.

American Renaissance claims that they will hold their “9th biennial American Renaissance Conference, to be held February 19 through February 21 in Herndon, Virginia (near Washington, D.C.).”  They changed the name of the location from the Dulles Marriott hotel to a “three-diamond hotel” in the Dulles Airport area, stating:

— “The conference will be at a three-diamond hotel very close to the airport, outside Washington, D.C. We will forward you contact information for the hotel after you have registered. Please be sure to ask for the special ‘New Century Foundation’ rate of $79.00 per night. There is no extra charge for double occupancy, so a spouse or friend can stay for free.”

In addition to their efforts to keep their conference location a secret, American Renaissance is also planning to provide pseudonyms for their attendees, stating “please call us if you would like to use a nom de guerre.”  “White Nationalist” Jared Taylor is also promoting the upcoming American Renaissance event on VDARE.

In November, R.E.A.L. reported on our discussions with the Dulles Marriott, where conference manager Nancy Majuka (703-471-9500) informed us that while American Renaissance had planned to be at the Dulles Marriott that their event there had been canceled.   We spoke to Nancy Majuka again today about this and she reiterated that the group was not holding a conference at the Dulles Marriott, either under their name “American Renaissance” or “New Century Foundation.”   We then checked with the Dulles Marriott room reservation center to see if there was a special rate for room under either of those names.  One reservation person we spoke with said they had no special rates under either of those group names, another one we spoke with seemed to believe that there had been an “American Renaissance” room rate at one point, but that it was nothing more than the routine weekend rate pricing available to anyone.

Both the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) have background on the racist and white supremacist views of American Renaissance leader Jared Taylor.  The SPLC describes both the American Renaissance and the New Century Foundation groups as “white nationalist” “hate groups.” Jared Taylor promotes racial segregation, and as ADL states, “promotes pseudoscientific studies that attempt to demonstrate the intellectual and cultural superiority of whites and publishes articles on the supposed decline of American society because of integrationist social policies.”

Jared Taylor’s New Century Foundation describes itself as “a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1994 to study immigration and race relations so as to better understand the consequences of America’s increasing diversity. It sponsors publications and books, and holds occasional conferences.”

"White Nationalist" Jared Taylor - Leader of American Renaissance and New Century Foundation
"White Nationalist" Jared Taylor - Leader of American Renaissance and New Century Foundation

The Southern Poverty Law Center reports on the “New Century Foundation”  and “American Renaissance” as follows:
— “Jared Taylor, the man who heads the New Century Foundation and edits its allied magazine American Renaissance, is a white supremacist who celebrates the “clear conception of the United States as a nation ruled by and for whites.” The foundation and magazine, based in Oakton, Va., tirelessly advance pseudo-scientific theories linking IQ to race and advocate eugenics — selective breeding to ‘improve’ human genetic stock.”
— “The foundation also puts on bi-annual conferences; the 2002 event was advertised like this: ‘In all parts of the world, whites are afraid to speak out in their own interests. The costs of ‘diversity,’ racial differences in IQ, the threat of non-white immigration — politicians and the media are afraid to discuss what these things mean for whites and their civilization.’ “
— “Taylor also has noted approvingly that until 1967, ‘strong opposition to mixed marriage was enshrined in law’ in 16 states. In ‘The Myth of Diversity,” Taylor writes that “diversity” has led to civil rights claims by all kinds of groups he doesn’t like. “Anyone who opposes the glorification of the alien, the subnormal, and the inferior can be denounced,’ he complains. ‘The metastasis of diversity is a fascinating story, but the disease began with race.’ “
— “After 300 pages of attacking blacks and dismissing white racism, Taylor’s 1992 book Paved With Good Intentions: The Failure of Race Relations in Contemporary America notes that most Americans would not agree to use sterilization or forced abortion on those whom the society considers less fit. His solution? Make ‘welfare mothers’ accept a ‘five-year implantable contraceptive.’ “
— “Taylor is allied with Wayne Lutton, whom he thanks in his book and who is the editor of The Social Contract, a journal published by John Tanton’s The Social Contract Press*. Taylor, Lutton and Richard Lynn are on the editorial board of The Occidental Quarterly, a journal where Sam Francis, top editor for the racist Council of Conservative Citizens*, serves as book review editor. The Occidental Quarterly’s first issue featured a story by the late Keith Stimely, who was also an editor of the Journal of Historical Review, a notorious Holocaust denial publication.”

White nationalist Jared Taylor, who is also promoted by VDARE, was a key speaker at the 2009 Council of Conservative Citizens (CofCC) national convention. (R.E.A.L. held a protest at a VDARE event in Baltimore, Maryland in October 2009, and at a VDARE event in McLean, Virginia in June 2009.) Jared Taylor has also blamed the 9/11 attacks on America as well, spreading hate after the 9/11 attacks stating “If we go to war, it will not be because we are the land of freedom and opportunity, but because we are the best friend and benefactor of Israel… If we fight Israel’s enemies, the United States will become like Israel: a garrison state and battleground.”

In addition to “white nationalist” Jared Taylor, other speakers scheduled to appear at the February 19-21 American Renaissance/New Century Foundation conference in Virginia include:

Nick Griffin, leader of the racist British National Party, who has appeared at America white supremacist events, and has a history of Holocaust denial, calling the Holocaust the “Holohoax.” Griffin has been photographed with former KKK leader David Duke; the white supremacist event that Griffin was also attended by U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum terrorist Von Brunn (praised by VDARE as “an intelligent man”).  Nick Griffin also has praised the racial segregationist views of the Nation of Islam’s Louis Farrakhan.

Dan Roodt, South African Apartheid Apologist

— Craig Bodeker – creator of film “A Conversation about Race” which argues that racism is merely a concern to suppress whites, and who reportedly has a history of slurs against blacks and others

University of Delaware’s Raymond Wolters – author of “The Burden of Brown,” which argues against school desegregation ress whites, and who has told VDARE about his views of the natural IQ limitations of blacks.

— Wayne Lutton – who ADL states that “Lutton is a director on the board of the Charles Martel Society, which publishes the racist Occidental Quarterly (OQ) journal and the anti-Semitic Occidental Observer online magazine

— Sam G. Dickson – who is reportedly on the editorial board of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CofCC), who describes himself as a supporter of “American racial nationalism”

We support our unqualified, universal human rights for all.  We urge white supremacist and “white nationalist” supporters to drop the burden of the hate of supremacism from their hearts, and to rejoin the family of humanity in support of our universal human rights.
