Note we are holding this on December 8, as Human Rights Day (December 10 is on a Saturday this year – so that people who hold religious services on Friday and Saturday will be respected).

Keynote Theme: Humanity’s Future in Human Rights

Details: Human rights activists discuss importance of religious, racial, ethnic, and gender equality and liberty on “Human Rights Day,” addressing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).  Please join us at the National Press Club for a thought-provoking news conference that will address the importance of consistently defending our universal human rights for all people of all identity groups, genders, race, ethnic origins, nationalities, religions and beliefs, as our brothers and sisters in humanity.

Human rights activist speakers will address various global human rights issues including: women’s rights, children’s rights, the need for balanced human rights to ensure freedom of conscience, the challenge of identity group extremists, the need to end genocide in Darfur and Sudan, the oppression of Pakistan Christian minorities, the oppression of Baloch people, the oppression of the Falun Dafa/Gong in the PRC, and the oppression of the Bahrani people, among other topics.

Human rights activist speakers will include:

* Jeffrey Imm, Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) – on the future of human rights around the world, for shared human respect, the essential need to respect the most vulnerable individuals and children, and the need for shared compassion to all

* Mohamed Yahya, Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy and Niemat Ahmadi, United to End Genocide – on the continuing genocide and human rights violations in Darfur and Sudan

* Dr. Nazir Bhatti, Pakistan Christian Congress – on the human rights violations of Christian minorities in Pakistan

* Carolyn Cook, United for Equality – supporting American Women’s Constitutional Equality, and explaining the essential need for the Equal Rights Amendment (E.R.A.)

* Ahmar Mustikhan, Senior Journalist and Area Expert, Balochistan – regarding the oppression and abuse of the Baloch people by those within Pakistan

* Jared Pearman, Spokesperson of Falun Dafa Association of Washington DC, oppressed in the PRC and denied their most basic human rights and dignity by those who view their practice and support for traditional Chinese values as a threat to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)

*  Husain Abdulla, Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) – speaking on behalf of Bahranis oppressed by government forces that seek to deny democracy

METRO CENTER METRO STATION to 14TH ST NW:

1. Exit station through 13TH ST NW & G ST NW entrance.
2. Walk approx. 1 block S on 13th St NW.
3. Turn right on F St NW.
4. Walk approx. 1 block W on F St NW.
5. Turn left on 14th St NW.
6. Walk approx. 1 block S on 14th St NW.

BY METRO

  1. Take Metro to Metro Center.
  2. Take the 13th Street Exit, take escalator to 13th Street; you should be at the corner of 13th and G Streets.
  3. Walk one block south to F Street.
  4. Turn right (West) and walk one block to 14th Street
  5. Turn left and walk downhill to the National Press Building lobby.
  6. Enter and take the elevators to the 13th Floor

FROM MONTGOMERY COUNTY

  1. Take River Road south to Goldsboro Road and turn Right.
  2. Turn Left onto Massachusetts Avenue.
  3. Follow Massachusetts Avenue to 14th Street NW and turn right.
  4. From 14th Street turn left onto G Street – the PMI Garage is halfway down the block on the left at 1325 G Street
  5. Walk out of the garage and turn right. At 14th Street turn left. Walk 1 1/2 blocks to the entrance to the National Press Building.
  6. Enter and take the elevators to the 13th Floor

FROM VIRGINIA

I-395 North
  1. Follow signs to 14th Street Bridge; Exit to 14th St
  2. Continue north on 14th St past Washington Monument past Freedom Plaza and Pennsylvania Ave
  3. The National Press Building is in the next block, next door to the J.W. Marriott Hotel
Memorial Bridge
  1. Cross Memorial Bridge to D.C.
  2. Bear left at the Lincoln Memorial.
  3. Right on Constitution Ave
  4. Left on 15th St
  5. Right on F St
  6. The National Press Building is at the corner of 14th and F St next to the J.W. Marriott Hotel
I-66
  1. Take I-66 east across the Roosevelt Bridge into D.C.
  2. This becomes Constitution Ave.
  3. Left on 15th St
  4. Right on F
  5. The National Press Building is at the corner of 14th and F St next to the J.W. Marriott Hotel

FROM BALTIMORE

  1. Take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway south and exit at New York Ave (Route 50)
  2. Follow New York Ave all the way to 14th St and turn left (south).
  3. The National Press Building is at the corner of 14th and F St next to the J.W. Marriott Hotel.

PARKING

The PMI garage is located on the north side of G St between 13th and 14th Streets. Carr Park is located at the corner of 15th and F Streets.
