Human Rights Defenders Call for Compassion

On December 9, 2010 in Washington DC’s National Press Club, Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) hosted a Human rights Day event to remember the signing by world nations in the United Nations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on December 10, 1948.

Speakers addressed the topics of:

  1. human compassion and human rights
  2. the continuing challenge of racial and religious intolerance in America, and how many were responding to the issue
  3. the continuing genocide and oppression in Darfur and Sudan
  4. the abuse of women’s and human rights in Iran, the denial of freedom of belief to practitioners of the Falun Dafa / Falun Gong in the People’s Republic of China
  5. the oppression of Christians in Pakistan and abuse of blasphemy laws to deny freedom and condemn innocents to death
  6. the oppression of Ahmadi Muslims as religious minorities and their support for human rights as supported by Islam
  7. the issues of oppression in Balochistan
  8. the challenge of seeking Constitution equality and equal rights for women in America and how that impacts American consistency and commitment to human rights
